According to iNews, Liverpool have been tracking Atalanta and Netherlands midfielder Teun Koopmeiners for months.

Koopmeiners is seen as a potential alternative to Jude Bellingham, who may be out of Liverpool’s financial reach.

A full Netherlands international, who helped his country to the quarter finals in this year’s FIFA World Cup, Koopmeiners is a physical box-to-box midfielder and has starred for Atalanta over the recent years helping his club reach the UEFA Champions League on a number of occasions. He’s already notched four goals in Serie A this season, although his primary role isn’t as a goalscoring midfielder.

Earlier today, The Telegraph reported on the growing influence of Pep Lijnders at the club; particularly when it comes to Liverpool’s recent transfer activities. Lijnders is also Dutch and Cody Gakpo’s recent arrival at Liverpool shows that there has been scouting within the Anfield hierarchy of players from a Netherlands background.

Liverpool have been criticised throughout the season by fans and pundits alike for failing to bring in the necessary reinforcements for the middle of the park and recent performances have shown just how desperate the club are in need of players in that area of the pitch.
