Liverpool are one of the best teams in world football. However, this hasn’t stopped the Reds trying to acquire players to make their squad better.

The 2023/24 summer transfer window was Jurgen Klopp’s biggest overhaul of his squad since the 2018/19 season where the likes of Alisson and Fabinho joined the Anfield club.

The impact the summer arrivals have made this season have not gone unnoticed. Out of the four midfield additions, Dominik Szoboszlai has been the standout player.

The Hungary international has played 18 times and contributed to four goals. These statistics may not seem like a lot but they don’t paint the full picture.

The impact he has had on the side is second to none. His passing range and work rate have been key to Liverpool’s successes this season.

Despite making valuable additions to their engine room over summer, the Reds failed to add another attacker to the mix.

Last season saw the departure of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. Whilst the former was subsequently replaced by Cody Gakpo, the Reds have been left with just five attackers since Firmino left the squad.

Hence why, Klopp was vying for the transfer of an attacker throughout the window.

One name which was thrown in the ring was that of Nico Williams. The winger plays for Athletic Club in Spain and is one of their best players.

Despite being just 21-years-old, the attacker has contributed to eight goals in just 11 appearances.

He has missed three games this season due to injury but this isn’t a regular occurrence for the youngster.

His contract is set to expire in 2024, making his price more enticing for the Reds.

However, it seems as if a move for Williams couldn’t be further away. After he himself has said he is “happy” at Bilbao.

“I’m happy here in Bilbao,” he said via Fabrizio Romano on X.

“Athletic fans can be relaxed, no worries.”

This is undoubtedly a major blow in the Reds’ pursuit of the attacker and could well mean that they will look at other targets.
