The Reds are considering a swoop for 18-year-old Momodou Sonko, who currently plays for Swedish side BK Häcken.
Liverpool are always on the hunt for the brightest and best young talents around the world and have now stumbled on the 18-year-old.
This is according to journalist Ola Gustavsson of Fotboll Direkt – a Swedish-based news outlet.
Gustavsson claims that Liverpool, alongside Bologna and RB Leipzig, are interested in signing the Swedish international.
He goes as far as to say that the Reds are making ‘strong moves’ to secure the signature of Sonko.
The player has reportedly already been scouted by the Reds, which has led to many fans calling on the teenager to sign for Liverpool.
In fact, Sonko is aware of the noise around him at the moment and has openly admitted that his friends urge him to make moves to the likes of Liverpool and Barcelona.
What did the BK Häcken man say about Liverpool?
In an interview with Swedish outlet Sport Bladet, Sonko revealed how his friends teasing him over a potential move:
“I have some Liverpool fans and some Barca fans. They want me to go to the club they’re cheering for.”
“It’s kind of funny. I get a lot written to me from my friends.
“It’s fun in the beginning but it can be too much too.”
When asked for his reaction if Jurgen Klopp were to personally ask him to make the switch to Anfield, he replied:
“If he were to call privately, I would laugh. It’s pretty unlikely.”
“It’s easier for him to reach my agents than me. I haven’t gotten that call anyway.”
Momodou Sonko’s playstyle
At modest height of 5ft 8, Sonko is a right-footed winger who plays on the left-wing.
A natural winger, he posses remarkable pace, agility, and dribbling abilities.
Able to take on his marker 1v1, Sonko is very much the modern inside forward – and will suit Jurgen Klopp’s system perfectly.
For such a young player, the teenager is already amongst the goals.
In 13 appearances for BK Häcken this season, Sonko has managed 4 goals and an assist.
That is not a bad return for a player that is nowhere near his potential.
Additionally, his ability to use both feet effectively mean he is a defender’s nightmare and can go either way when up against his marker.
Sonko will likely be the long-term heir to Luis Diaz, if the Reds do decide to purchase the youngster.
He won the Allsvenskan (Sweden’s first division) in 2022, and became Swedish Cup winner last year.
