Andreas Schjelderup rejected the opportunity to join Liverpool in favour of Benfica.

That is according to TV2 sport in Norway.

Andreas Schjelderup has joined Benfica from Nordsjælland. He made his full debut for the Danish side at just 16.

According to the report the player determined that Benfica was the best club for him as he is set to play a vital role in the first team in the coming seasons.

Both Liverpool and Brentford made detailed presentations to his representatives according to TV2 sport but the 18-year-old opted to go to Portugal.

A number of clubs across Europe wanted his signature the Norwegian outlet claims.

Amazingly, Andreas Schjelderup has admitted that he is a Liverpool fan in the past.

Prior to joining Nordsjaelland Andreas Schjelderup confirmed that Liverpool were interested in him:

“I visited Ajax four times, PSV four times, Tottenham, Liverpool, Juventus, Fulham, Atalanta and Bayern Munich,” he told TV2 via Goal

“They (Nordsjaelland) are a club that has shown that they give young players a chance, and that they spend enormous resources on player development.

“It was very tempting with clubs from Italy, England and Spain. I’m a Liverpool fan myself, but I kind of did not want to be one in the crowd. It is a longer way to go to get into the first team at those clubs.”
