According to a recent report, Liverpool are looking at the possibility of signing a young Swedish talent by the name of Momodou Sonko who is at BK Hacken.
The 18-year-old has been impressive this season as in 2023 he has scored seven goals and got four assists for BK Häcken with the club finishing third in the Allsvenskan.
He has been scouted by Liverpool for supposedly a little while now but Barcelona have also been linked with the attacker so there could be some competition for his signature.
Liverpool and Barcelona have had big transfer battles in the past as in 2018 Phillipe Coutinho left Merseyside for Spain joining Barcelona for a remarkable fee of £105 million which could have risen to £142 million.
That fee led to Klopp being able to bring in two players Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson Becker who would go on to be legends at the club and still are.
So if this possible transfer saga goes the right way for Liverpool the club will be hoping that it can have the same massive affect that the 2018 drama did on the club.
Sonko though has spoken about the links to the two clubs as he looks to keep his head focused on the immediate future to keep his fitness up due to the fact the Swedish division does not start until the end of March.
Momodou Sonko speaks about his future
The 18-year-old spoke about the fact that Barcelona and Liverpool as he even managed to share a joke about the massive prospect of joining one of the two European giants.
He said: “Rumors don’t matter that much until bids come in. I don’t need to delve into what is written.
“It’s fun to read sometimes, but when you start hearing it several times from friends, it can get a bit tiring. It’s a fun thing, but not something I focus on.”
Speaking about his friends being on his back about a move he said: “I have some who are Liverpool fans and some Barça fans. They want me to go to the club they support. It’s kind of funny.
“I get a lot written to me from my friends. It’s fun at first but it can be too much too.
“I laugh at them and tell them to calm down. It’s not more difficult than that.”
He was also asked about the leagues in Holland and Belgium compared to Spain and England due to the fact Anderlecht, Club Brugge, PSV and Ajax have also shown their interest in him.
“If the right environment exists, with a football similar to the one we play here – offensive, where you develop young players, right for me, then I see no problem with moving to Holland or Belgium either. It is important to familiarise yourself with the history of the clubs, what they are known for,” said the youngster.
Lastly the big question for Sonko was about what would he do if he received a phone call from Klopp to try and convince him to join Liverpool.
Sonko said: “If he were to call privately, I would laugh. It is quite unlikely, it is easier for him to reach my agents than me. I haven’t received that call anyway.”
It appears that whatever happens in the future that Sonko has got a calm and mature head on his shoulder which Klopp would certainly be a fan of.
