Liverpool youngster Luke Chambers has completed a loan move to Wigan Athletic for the remainder of the 2023/24 season, a club statement confirms.
Chambers, who enrolled in Liverpool’s Academy at the age of six, made his club debut earlier this season under Jürgen Klopp and appeared in four games overall.
Most of his minutes have come in the Europa League, including two matches in the starting eleven.
The left-back was also part of the England U19 side that won European Championship back in 2022.
He last spent time on loan with Scottish side Kilmarnock during the second half of last season, making 16 appearances for the cinch Premiership side.
Wigan Athletic have not enjoyed a good season in League One so far.
The Latics are currently wallowing away in 18th place.
Hopefully Chambers can have a productive loan spell and help Wigan climb up the table.
The 19-year-old previously spoke about his playstyle, saying:
“I think I’m more of a stay-on-my-feet defender, I don’t really rush into a lot of stuff, I’m more careful about my positioning.”
“When you watch Virg defending, he’s so elegant and he reads the game very well.”
“I think they’re the best kind of defenders in this day and age.”
We wish Chambers all the best in what will hopefully be a beneficial experience for the teenager, and come back to Liverpool a better player.
