Liverpool ready to offer Luis Diaz new deal

Luis Diaz has three years left on his remaining Liverpool contract.

Liverpool are prepared to offer Luis Diaz a new contract to fend off interest from several clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra.

Diaz has proven to be a success since his surprising £50m move from Porto in January 2022.

The forward has contributed significantly with 24 goals and 12 assists in 90 appearances for the Reds.

While the 27-year-old initially signed a five-year contract, reports this week suggest that he is interested in negotiating a new deal.

This development follows another report indicating interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in acquiring the services of the Liverpool talisman, particularly with Kylian Mbappe’s potential departure to Real Madrid.

Despite these speculations, Diaz, who shares an agent, Raul Costa, with Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, a rumoured candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager this summer has remained silent about his future plans.

Providing an update on Diaz’s future at Anfield, Pipe Sierra posted on X: “Liverpool seriously considers making a renewal offer this summer with a salary improvement to Luis Díaz (27) in accordance with his importance in the team.

“In this way, they hope to protect him and remove the interest of teams economically strong like PSG.”

Sierra, in an interview with SMXLFC, claimed that, “I know that Liverpool are going to offer Luis Diaz a new deal this summer.

“The negotiations will exist. We will see if the PSG interest makes an impact. I know Luis Diaz loves Liverpool.”

Meanwhile, former Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has backed Diaz to turn down offers from other clubs and stay at Liverpool.

“He is a great player, very decisive especially when it comes to playing in one-on-one duels. The truth is that I think he has arrived at a team that fits him just right,” Mascherano told Antena 2.

“If there is something that Liverpool have is that they love players like Diaz who leave everything on the field and have that strength and leave everything on the field.

“That’s why I think he fits right where he has arrived.”

Elsewhere, captain Virgil van Dijk, vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, and top goalscorer Mohamed Salah are all approaching the final 12 months of their contracts.
