Liverpool were linked to a plethora of midfielders last year as they went through one of the biggest rebuilds in a single transfer window under Jurgen Klopp.
They shipped five midfielders out so the club signed four new ones to go right into the first team and so far it has proved to be a very good window as Liverpool are in a fantastic position to challenge for four major honours.
Even though Klopp brought in four new players for the middle of the pitch there was hope that they would sign another one hence why there were plenty of reports about bids for Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo.
They were looking for a long-term Fabinho replacement after he made the defensive midfield role his own for so many years however Wataru Endo was the only natural deeper midfielder signed.
Alexis Mac Allister has rotated with Endo for that position as the club are still searching for another midfielder to join the club however there is one player that they are seemingly no longer interested in.
Liverpool are not one of the clubs trying to sign Kalvin Phillips
Back in the summer Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips was one of the many players linked with a move to Anfield as he had not made an impact under Pep Guardiola.
He was signed by the Premier League Champions after establishing himself as a Premier League quality midfielder and also a regular for Gareth Southgate’s England.
However injury problems and the fact he just hasn’t been able to get up to speed in Guardiola’s system has meant that he has barely played for City who have had to continue relying on Rodri without giving him a proper rest.
Phillips has only played 31 games for Manchester City in all competitions and he is yet to even complete over a thousand minutes of action for the club he has been at for nearly two years.
So due to this he is wanting a move away to get some game time to make sure he is picked by Gareth Southgate for the European Championships in the summer and now a new report has listed the clubs who are interested in signing him.
His future is set to be decided this week with a loan move away for the rest of the season the likeliest outcome in this Winter window.
There are six clubs who are showing keen interest in signing him and they are Barcelona , Atletico Madrid, Juventus Crystal Palace, West Ham and Newcastle United.
Liverpool are no longer keeping their eyes on the situation surrounding Phillips as they appear to be pleased with the options they have for the rest of the campaign.
Klopp has recently got Mac Allister back from injury and he is waiting for Endo to return from action from the Asian Cup.
As well as those two there is a hope that Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic will return to full fitness in February and give him even more options in the holding midfield role.
