Liverpool are among a number of clubs interested in signing Boca Juniors left-back Valentin Barco as a future replacement for Andy Robertson, according to Calciomercato.
The Italian outlet claims that Juventus are also keen on signing the highly-rated defender as Massimiliano Allegri looks to rebuild his squad.
“Barco is evaluating the big leap into Europe with ever more attention. Juve appear ready to play their game, despite the fierce competition from Liverpool among others,” a quote from Calciomercato says.
In September, Goal reported that Premier League clubs Brighton and Manchester City were interested in his signature while 90min stated that Chelsea have also entered the race back in October.
It is believed that Boca Juniors have attempted to tie the 19-year-old down to a new contract and remove his £8m release clause, but an agreement is yet to be reached and he is due to enter the final 12 months of his existing deal in January.
He has made 30 appearances across all competitions, scored one goal, and provided four assists in the process.
Barco could be an ideal replacement for Robertson, who will be 30 years old next year. His deputy Kostas Tsimikas has struggled to replicate his impressive form during the 2021/22 season, hence the need to bring in another left-back to provide competition.
Robertson is Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice left-back and is also regarded as one the finest defenders in the world. He will go down as one of the club’s greatest-ever left-back, having helped the Reds clinch several titles including the Champions League and Premier League.
With Barco still young and determined to reach the top, Klopp could moulded him to become of the best left-backs in the world under his guidance.
