Liverpool are in advanced talks with Cody Gakpo
Dutch journalist Marco Timmer revealed a few weeks ago that Liverpool were going to hold talks with Gakpo.
Now the reliable Paul Joyce of The Times has reported that talks are at an advanced stage.
Joyce states: “Negotiations have reached an advanced stage with PSV Eindhoven for the attacker, who is valued at between £45 million and £50 million, in the last 48 hours and if the deal is completed it will bolster Jürgen Klopp’s attacking options following the injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.”
He goes on to say that Liverpool decided to act now due to Manchester United’s interest in the winger.
According to The Athletic ‘Liverpool hope to finalise the transfer quickly, ahead of the transfer window reopening on January 1. The initial fee is likely to be around £37 million.’
The Athletic goes on to state: “Liverpool have a strong relationship with Gakpo’s representatives SEG, who also look after Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.”
