Liverpool could once again raid the Bundesliga in the summer after last summer’s transfer haul.
Incoming sporting director Jorg Schmadtke seemed to only have knowledge of Germany’s topflight.
Alexis Mac Allister was Julian Ward’s final gift to Liverpool before he stepped down last year.
Jorg Schmadtke then facilitated the transfers of Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.
It worked out to a combined fee of around £145m to bring in the four midfielder, and it’s fair to say that it was money well-spent.
However, it seems like the Reds could turn to the Bundesliga once again in the summer.
It was previously reported by BILD’s Christian Falk that Liverpool were looking at Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane.
It is believed that the German international can succeed Mohamed Salah on the right-flank.
Back in 2018, Sane admitted that Liverpool were keen on him before he transferred to Manchester City in August of 2016:
“Yes, I was also talking with them,” Sane replied when asked if Liverpool was interested in him while he was still at Schalke.
“Jurgen was calling me too, talking to me. That was before I joined City.”
“He did a good job at [Borussia] Dortmund – I met him when he was there.
He’s a good guy, nice guy – honest. He [has] worked well with Liverpool.”
Now a further update has emerged regarding Sane and Liverpool.
What did Christian Falk say about the Bundesliga star?
Writing for CaughtOffside, the BILD journalist has claimed that Leroy Sane is ‘aware’ of Liverpool’s interest – but will wait until the summer:
“That’s true, Leroy Sane is on the list at Liverpool FC,” Falk began.
“As far as I have heard the Bayern player knows about this interest, but he has not yet decided how to proceed.”
“He has changed his management and wants to decide in the summer.”
“Of course, at Liverpool, Mo Salah might go to Saudi Arabia.”
“In the summer there was an offer, but Liverpool are still not sure whether to let their superstar go.”
“I have heard that Liverpool can even imagine letting him go on a free transfer as they’ve already made their money back from what they paid Roma for him.”
“A lot now depends on whether or not he leaves.”
Another problem is that in the end Sane decides he likes it better in Munich anyway and decides to stay.”
It’s important to note that Sane changed his agents recently, which could indicate he is anticipating a move.
The 27-year-old has been in inspired form for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga this season.
The winger has managed eight goals and 11 assists in 20 outings in the league – truly freakish numbers.
It then comes as no surprise that those at Anfield are keen on the pacey hitman.
However, with Jurgen Klopp leaving, it remains to be seen if Liverpool’s interest in Sane exits out the door with him.
