In the past days, reports from Italy have claimed that Liverpool have identified Teun Koopmeiners as a the ‘perfect signing’.
This is not the first time the Reds have been purported to be keen on signing the Dutch international.
Interest in Koopmeiners from Liverpool was present in January 2023.
Furthermore, a separate Italian outlet – Calcio Mercato – also reported and detailed Liverpool’s interest in the versatile midfielder.
It came hours before the aforementioned Atalanta-based outlet.
The 25-year-old is able to play in a plethora of positions, including centre-back and across all midfield positions and niches.
Jurgen Klopp brought in plenty of midfield reinforcements brought in over the summer.
Despite this, there has been continued noise and speculation around a long-term ‘No.6’.
The report goes on to claim that the Bergamo club will only consider offers £51.5-55m (€60-65m) with a January sale not on the agenda.
What did Teun Koopmeiners say about the reported Liverpool interest?
Speaking earlier this January, the Dutch international revealed that he was pleased to see the reports linking him to such a club like Liverpool (via GOAL):
“I saw the links and stories about Liverpool — nice to see that but I’m 100 per cent focused on Atalanta, I’m so happy to play here.”
Meanwhile, Atalanta sporting director Tony D’Amico has played down any stories of advanced negotiations, also saying earlier this month:
“For Koopmeiners, there is nothing concrete with Liverpool.”
“Their interest pleases us, but he is our player.”
It definitely does feel like Teun Koopmeiners could be a player Jurgen Klopp and co. return to in the forthcoming summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old has impressed in midfield for Atalanta this season.
He has managed seven goals and four assists in 24 games across all competitions.
Koopmeiners’s contract expires in 2027.
