Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp have always gathered admirers both near and far.

The style of football is fast paced, exciting and refreshing. Kylian Mbappe even praised Liverpool’s playstyle a couple years ago during the 2019-20 season.

Now previous comments from La Liga star Takefusa Kubo on Liverpool have resurfaced online in an interview he did with GOAL Japan relayed via Liverpool fan and X user King47Ynwa.

The Japanese youngster, who is currently on loan at Real Sociedad from Real Madrid, spoke about his fondness for Liverpool back in 2019:

“There aren’t many teams I like”, Kubo replied when asked about his favorite team past or present.

“I don’t have a particular team [ but] Liverpool is the most interesting soccer team these days. When I watch [them], I think ‘what a great team’.”

“This is a slightly [stronger], different feeling from ‘like’ and ‘wow’.”

Kubo also admitted he appreciated Liverpool’s offensive, fast players – likely referring to the wide partnership of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

“I like fast and skillful players. I think every strong club has these types of players, but when I see players like [ Mane and Salah], I think, ‘Wow that’s amazing’ “.

Of course, during this time Liverpool were dominant in the 2019/20 Premier League season, having pretty much wrapped the title up before the enforced break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kubo has started this season well, scoring three goals and creating one assist in five La Liga appearances so far.

The 22-year-old plays in the same positions as Salah and Mane, operating off both wings.

He has not had the best experience at Real Madrid and has spent multiple seasons on loan while being on the books at Los Blancos.

Perhaps Takefuso Kubo landing up at Liverpool will now not be such a surprise should a move ever transpire.
