Virgil van Dijk spoke to Sky Sports on new signing Cody Gakpo at full-time and insisted that Liverpool fans must give him time.
Van Dijk was less than impressed with Liverpool’s performance.
Van Dijk: “At times we were very poor tonight. it sounds cliche but is it important to win these games. It wasn’t good enough today we all know that. Plenty of things we have to do.” (Sky)

Van Dijk was asked about new boy Cody Gakpo and what he would bring to Liverpool:
“Hopefully a lot. Good player. Good boy. I know how it is to come in January. We have to give him time. I am very sure that the Liverpool fans will give him time. I said it before, we are a family. The real ones (fans) will always back him no matter what happens. He has to keep his head down no matter what.”
On the role he played in the move:
“I think it is over-exaggerated (my role). Obviously I spoke to him. I can only say good things because I am here. I didn’t need to convince him. I am enjoying my time and we have been very successful. If it was me it was an easy decision to make. I am very glad that he is here. hopefully he can get started as soon as possible.”
