Liverpool faced Manchester United today in a game which ended as a stalemate.

The sides faced one another in what ended up being a rather lacklustre clash.

As per usual, the build up to the game was heavily based on the rivalry between the two clubs and most thought Liverpool would walk all over the Red Devils.

However, this didn’t end up being the case and Liverpool left the game somewhat embarrassed following their recent form.

Although Jurgen Klopp’s men have still only lost one Premier League game this season, today’s draw feels like a loss due to the opportunity that was presented to the Anfield club.

Erik Ten Hag’s side entered the game with just six defenders and without star man, Marcus Rashford.

Furthermore, their recent results against the likes of Bournemouth and Galatasary gave the Reds even more of a boost going into the game.

However, whether the pressure got to them or it was just an off-day is yet to be told.

Virgil Van Dijk was particularly aggravated by the result claiming “The right decision was sometimes lacking.”

If you see how we played the game, we had most of the ball and created some opportunities. There was only one team trying to win the game.”

“We want to win every game of course and that is why it is frustrating. Sometimes we shot too easy and could have passed on the overlap. The right decision was sometimes lacking.

The Liverpool captain highlighted Manchester United’s rather defensive tactic during the game.
Throughout the clash, Liverpool created many chances but they evidently came to no avail.
Andre Onana’s performance for The Red Devils wasn’t one of the best of his career.
He and his team constantly held the ball back and rarely attacked.
Leading to a scuffle between Van Dijk and the goalkeeper in the tunnel after the game.

What Virgil Van Dijk said to Andre Onana

According to reports, the Netherlands international ‘confronted’ Onana in the tunnel.

He supposedly  said, “Because of you, we only played a half-hour game.”

To which Onana just replied with a smile.

This showcases that Ten Hag’s men know they were on the back foot throughout the game.

If Liverpool weren’t as sloppy with their chances, the result could’ve gone more the Reds’ way.

Allowing them to cement their place at the top of the Premier League table.
