Virgil van Dijk makes honest Kylian Mbappe admission amid Liverpool transfer rumours

PSG forward Kylian Mbappe is exploring the option of moving to the Premier League.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has heaped praise on Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe following his outstanding performances for club and country.

Mbappe is exploring the option of moving to the Premier League after being unimpressed by Real Madrid’s attempt to push him into signing a pre-contract agreement this month.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to the Reds for several seasons and even held talks with Jurgen Klopp’s side but both parties couldn’t reach an agreement.

The World Cup winner has just six months left on his contract with PSG and is now free to negotiate with other clubs about a potential free transfer this summer.

Speaking in an interview with France Football, Van Dijk said: “Of course, Kylian has a special talent. You have to be at your best to face him, the whole team has to be at their best, in fact.”

Mbappe, meanwhile, is yet to decide his future as he looks to focus on PSG at least for the rest of the season.

“First of all, I’m very, very, very motivated for this year. It’s very important,” Mbappe said.

“As I said, we’ve got titles to go after and we’ve already won one, so that’s already done. After that, no, I haven’t made up my mind yet.

“But in any case, with the agreement I made with the chairman (Nasser Al-Khelaifi) this summer, it doesn’t matter what I decide.

“We managed to protect all parties and preserve the club’s serenity for the challenges ahead, which remains the most important thing. So we’ll say it’s secondary.”

During the same interview, the Netherlands international heaped praise on Mbappe’s France international teammate Ibrahima Konate who has shone at centre-back for the Reds this season.

“Ibrahima is already a very, very good player. He is still learning, but he is progressing quickly. And the way he plays already at his age is truly remarkable.

“It’s a real pleasure to be able to work with him, to be around him every day, to see him improve a little more every day,” he said.

“I’m really happy with everything that’s happening to him. I really think he can become one of the best defenders in the world.”
