Liverpool are set to be without Virgil van Dijk for a number of weeks after he picked up a hamstring injury in Liverpool’s defeat to Brentford.
Van Dijk was withdrawn at half-time after Jurgen Klopp confirmed the Dutch international felt muscular pain during the interval.
Speaking to Sky Sports at full time Klopp said:
“Virgil felt a little bit the muscle and said it is fine, and he is a very good judge of these kinds of things. But I didn’t want to take any risks. The physios looked quite happy when I said we don’t take risks. It’s not an injury, he just felt the intensity.”
Now the Liverpool Echo reported that the centre back is set for a spell on the sidelines.
Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate are likely to be Liverpool’s starting centre backs with Joe Gomez and Nat Phillips providing cover.
