The Athletic’s Liverpool reporter James Pearce has revealed that, despite a bump in the road, his relationship with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is now back on track.
It came following Klopp’s point-blank refusal to answer Pearce’s questions in a press conference last month.
Pearce revealed all in a Q&A session between himself and fans that they shook hands and resolved the spiky situation following the altercation.
“Yes, all sorted. It was actually an article published elsewhere the day before the game that had annoyed him,” explained Pearce.
“Around that time, he felt that certain members of his staff were being unfairly singled out for criticism and emotions were running high after a bad defeat.
“I saw him privately at Kirkby a few weeks ago for a chat and we shook hands. He’s answered my questions in press conferences since and everything is fine.”
Luckily, it has all been swept under the carpet, but it was Klopp’s comments towards Pearce that stole the headlines, as opposed to talking points surrounding Liverpool’s devastating 3-0 loss to Wolves.
The Daily Mail reports that Klopp refused to answer any of Pearce’s questions under any circumstances in the press conference following the loss.
Pearce posed a question to speak about the mentality of Liverpool’s roster, to which he received a hasty reply.
“It’s very difficult to talk to you if I’m 100 percent honest. I would prefer not to do that.
“You know why, for all the things you wrote. So If somebody else would like to ask that question then I’ll answer it,” he continued.
The German boss’ comments took everyone by surprise, as Pearce is an established member of the journalist circuit and widely appreciated by those associated with Liverpool.
It’s positive to hear that things have been patched up since the dispute, but eyebrows are still raised over the nature of Klopp’s response.
