Liverpool and Manchester City have both started the season well, with Pep Guardiola’s side unbeaten with five straight wins and Liverpool not far behind with four wins and a draw.

Jurgen Klopp and Guardiola are no strangers to title races, having faced each other in multiple, record-breaking title races over the recent years.

Speaking in his UEFA Champions League pre-match press conference, Guardiola mentioned Liverpool and Arsenal as sides that could challenge City for the title this season.

“You know how strong Arsenal are, yesterday at Goodison Park they are exceptional. Liverpool again, the mentality is continued there”, Guardiola said via the BBC.

The Spanish manager is most likely referring to Liverpool’s ability to turn games around, as they have already done against Bournemouth, Newcastle United, and most recently Wolves last weekend.

Arsenal was expected to be City’s main challengers for the league this season, but Jurgen Klopp’s experience make Liverpool as good of a contender – if not better.

Manchester City will also be defending their Champions League crown this season, meaning their games in midweek should be a bit tougher than Liverpool’s European games.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool has the consistency to go head-to-head with Manchester City for the title this season, but the Reds have certainly put out a statement in their first five games – and Pep Guardiola has taken note.
