Long-time Liverpool servant Lucas Leiva announced his retirement from professional football earlier in the week. The Brazilian retired after a heart issue was discovered in tests in December.
The 36-year-old played at the heart of Liverpool’s midfield for ten years before leaving Anfield to join Lazio in 2017.
Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has reacted to Leiva’s announcement on Dalglish’s official Twitter account.
Leiva played under Dalglish during his second stint as the Liverpool manager from 2011-2012.
Dalglish’s Twitter wrote;
“Lucas – I hope everything is OK. The respect you have in Liverpool is truly genuine. We are all here if we can be of any help whatsoever, and we wish you luck in your next chapter. These pictures speak louder than any words. YNWA”.
A truly touching tribute from King Kenny to a fine servant to the club who earned the love and respect of Liverpool supporters worldwide for his performances.
