Sam Allardyce has been commenting about Roberto Firmino’s legacy at Liverpool.

Speaking to the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Allardyce said about his slow start:

“Brendan signed him, he took a year, nearly two seasons to play like he played. He was written off in that first season ‘waste of money, why did we buy him?”

“All of that stuff that goes around in the game now. He settled in and off he goes. He could easily have been sold on. Full marks to him, lovely touches, vision, delicate passes, goals and assists,”

The former England manager said that many claimed Firmino was “a waste of money” at one point. But with hindsight, £29m was a bargain.

Allardyce’s comments make the point about patience, something Liverpool show with their players.

Roberto Firmino will leave the club at the end of the season, and thus far, has scored 79 goals in 249 appearances.
