Roberto De Zerbi speaks on Jurgen Klopp departure

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi has now reacted to the unexpected announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has caught the eye in the Premier League ever since his arrival from Ukranian side Shakhtar Donetsk in 2022.

While he did inherit a functional team from ex-manager Graham Potter, the Italian has arguably built even more success at the Amex Stadium.

De Zerbi’s was successful at making the Seagulls a bigger threat going forward – with Brighton scoring more goals than ever under his stewardship.

The Italian masterminded Brighton’s highest-ever points tally in a Premier League season – a remarkable 62 points and a 6th place finish.

Roberto De Zerbi also played his part in a run to the FA Cup semifinals last term, narrowly losing out to eventual runners-up Manchester United on penalties.

And again, this campaign, the south coast club have impressed in their debut European season.

They topped a stacked Group B that involved the likes of Ajax and Olympique Marseille and could even meet the Reds in the knock-outs rounds to come.

What did Roberto De Zerbi say about Jurgen Klopp?

Now speaking in his pre-Sheffield United press conference, the Brighton boss has had his say on Jurgen Klopp’s announcement.

On the Jurgen Klopp ‘running out of energy’, he said:

“I can understand him, I think we have the best [job], but it is very tough.”

“You need energy, and have to push everyday; improve day by day.”

“You can’t stop your improvement and studies for a new idea. Football is always in development.”

On the prospect of managing Liverpool, the Italian was quick to shoot-down any attempts at a headline:

“There is no news. My focus is on the end of this season. We want to focus on our targets.”
