Yesterday it was such a shock that Jurgen Klopp announced that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of this campaign and many fans are still getting their head around the prospect of the German not being in the Anfield dugout.
He has been at the club for nine years and has delivered everything that Liverpool fans would have wanted whilst he still has a chance to end with four more trophies due to how well The Reds have been doing this season.
Due to this some were hoping that Klopp would possibly sigh a contract extension however he stated that he needs a year break as he does not have the energy to carry on after this campaign.
The owners of Liverpool knew in November so they will have started planning for the future already and since the news has been made public several names have been linked with the job for the summer.
Former Liverpool man Xabi Alonso has been linked with the Bayer Leverkusen manager a fan favourite due to his successful time at the club back in the Rafa Benitez era.
Another manager who has been linked is current Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi and the Italian has responded to the rumours.
Roberto De Zerbi wants to focus on this season before he thinks about another job
Brighton had an away FA Cup fourth round tie against Sheffield United which they won 4-2 with thanks to a Joao Pedro hat-trick to get them through.
After the game De Zerbi was asked about the role that will open up at Liverpool in the summer.
He said: “Now it is not my focus. My focus is on my players, my team, my fans, my club.
“We have a lot of things to reach this season and then we will see [about] the future.”
De Zerbi had a great first season in England last campaign as he came in to replace Graham Potter and got Brighton into Europe for the first-time ever whilst achieving their highest ever finish in the Premier League.
So far this campaign he has had relative success as they are yet again challenging for the European spots in the league and they topped their Europa League group which had Ajax, Marseille and AEK Athens whilst today progressing through to the FA Cup fifth round.
The Italian is renowned for his risky football which has given The Seagulls plenty of rewards hence why he is on the shortlist of Liverpool but it would appear that right now Xabi Alonso is the frontrunner.
It is set to be a long drawn out process as Liverpool look to hire a sporting director first and review all of their potential options ahead of the massive summer of change.
