For his column with the Mirror, Robbie Fowler has suggested the areas Liverpool need to focus on when it comes to their rebuild in the summer.
The former Liverpool striker suggests that they need players who are already the finished article and are not based on potential. As the signings of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo have been based on their potential and they still remain raw talents.
However, the issue with this is the fact that big money needs to be spent on several players that are already the finished product.
Writing in his column the ex-Liverpool great said:
“I agree with Jurgen Klopp that he needs a rebuild this summer, with at least four signings – and very possibly more – required.
But I can’t help thinking it needs to be better than the transfer business they’ve done in the last year if they are to get back to the incredible level Liverpool have enjoyed for most of the time under him.”
Fowler suggests Liverpool needs at least three players that can walk straight into the starting eleven. Depending on the budget that Liverpool have going into the summer, the former striker suggests that maybe Liverpool move away from Jude Bellingham and spend the money elsewhere.
“And it may not be wise to spend what money they have on one player. Let’s say the summer budget is £130m and they spend it on Jude Bellingham, one player just won’t solve the team problem they’ve got”, Fowler wrote.
The areas that Liverpool will need to improve on in the summer are midfield which will require at least two to three new signings and in defence where they will likely need an additional centre-back due to the decline in form of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.
