Richard Keys made a prediction that, at the time, seemed silly, but as time passes, it seems that he may have been on to something.
Keys pointed out that Darwin Nunez would prove the better long-term purchase in comparison to goal machine Erling Haaland in his blog post.
Nunez arrived in England in the same window as Haaland and so, the comparisons were made.
Nunez initially to stamp his authority on the Premier League following his anticipated move from Portuguese club Benfica.
Since, Nunez has scored a total of 14 times and provided four assists in 31 appearances in all competitions in his inaugural year in the Premier League.
His recent outing at Anfield shows what the Uruguayan possesses in abundance: finishing, positioning, and being an all-round menace.
The 24-year-old scored on two occasions against Manchester United in their 7-0 romp, and so his influence on the game inevitably shone through.
Following the infamous win, Keys stressed that his prediction may come into fruition.
“As Nunez grabbed two more my mind went back to an early season blog I wrote when I said I really fancied him as a player – and that he might be a better long term bet than Haaland,” he wrote on his blog.
“The way the Norwegian started the season made that call look a little foolish, but I’m beginning to wonder if I was right after all,”
“And notice I said ‘long term’”
