Naby Keita looks highly likely to depart Liverpool this summer upon the expiration of his current contract.
Keita has struggled with injuries since his arrival at Anfield in 2018 and for that reason has never become a consistent starter under Jurgen Klopp.
German journalist Christian Falk has reported for Caught Offside that Keita is unlikely to extend his current deal and looks set to return to Germany this summer. Falk reports that Keita’s old club RB Leipzig are the current front runners to sign the midfielder.
Falk claims that he recently met with former Liverpool and current Bayern Munich player Sadio Mane, who still keeps in regular contact with Keita. Falk asked Mane about Keita’s future to which the Senegal international replied, “I will tell you when there is news.”
Falk spoke about the clubs interested in signing Keita on a free transfer and claims RB Leipzig are in the driver’s seat.
“I think Leipzig are ahead at the moment,” Falk said. “Dortmund are not so concrete at the moment but they do have him on their shortlist in the ongoing search for a potential Jude Bellingham replacement. Leipzig yes, Dortmund… so-so. The rumours from Barcelona are still here; I know that his management was in Spain recently. He’s going to be a free agent and you know what Barcelona do with free agents. So, I think these other clubs are, at the moment, ahead.”
