As Liverpool undergo an extensive squad overhaul this summer, the names linked with a move to Anfield don’t stop coming.
According to reports, Liverpool have a long-standing interest in young Barcelona midfielder Gavi and may reignite a chase for the 18-year-old this summer.
A report from The Times’s Tom Allnutt states that Liverpool and Manchester City are both interested in the Spanish international.
There is a potential for Gavi to be available on a free transfer this summer amid the legal chaos surrounding Barcelona at present. Barcelona possibly will not be able to afford to register the player next season. If that happens, Gavi is virtually guaranteed to depart the Catalan club.
Allnutt writes;
“Gavi is one of the world’s most talented young players and is seen by Barcelona as essential to the future as they continue to rebuild under Xavi Hernández after a number of high-profile departures.”
To acquire a young player with such huge potential, with no transfer fee would be an absolute masterstroke.
At only 18, Gavi has played 17 times for Spain and has scored 3 goals for his country. The youngster has 83 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 4 goals and registering 11 assists.
