Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward shocked supporters when he announced last November that he would be leaving his role at Anfield this summer. Ward had only just taken over from Michael Edwards in the role the previous summer. Ward had worked under Edwards before taking on a bigger role in the club.

The 41-year-old has played a huge role in Liverpool’s attempts to sign Luis Diaz in January 2022 and Darwin Nunez last summer.

The news was reported by Simon Mullock of The Mirror. The report states that Ward has agreed financial terms with Ajax executive Edwin van der Sar after lengthy negotiations.

Ward will begin his work at Ajax on July 1. Ajax have struggled since the departure of Erik Ten Hag who joined Manchester United. Ward will have a rebuild job on his hands once he begins work in Amsterdam.
