Rafa Benitez will go down in Liverpool’s hall of fame due to the success he had whilst at the club.
The Spaniard managed the Reds on what was one of the clubs most memorable nights.
However, many fans felt betrayed by Benitez as he join arch rivals, Everton.
Although his reasoning for joining the Toffees was valid, the betrayal felt by some fans was too much to forgive.
However, one thing LFC fans can be thankful for is the fact that Benitez “ruled against” making a move for Luis Diaz during his reign at Everton.
This was revealed by former Toffees director, Marcel Brands, during an interview with AD Sportwereld (via Football 365).
“In the summer of 2021, we were looking to bring Luis Diaz from Porto.
“I was working hard to get James Rodriguez to go to Porto as part of the deal that would bring Diaz to the Club, however, Rafa Benitez ruled against it because he was not sure about the player.”
The Colombia international has been a sensational signing for the Reds.
Since joining the side during the 2021 January transfer window, he made an instant impact on the team.
His energy and the quality he brought to the table were what Jurgen Klopp’s men needed to give them that extra boost.
This season has been no different with the winger contributing to five goals in just 14 appearances.
Klopp has countless attacker at his disposal and Luis Diaz’s recent performances have made it almost impossible to not guarantee him a starting spot.
His South American compatriot, Darwin Nunez, isn’t far behind him in terms of form.

The attacker scored the second goal in Uruguay’s historic victory against Argentina on Thursday night.
The goal was of real quality with the striker even incorporating a fake shot in the build up.
