Rafa Benitez was interviewed by Marca ahead of Liverpool’s hotly anticipated UEFA Champions League tie with Real Madrid at Anfield tomorrow.

Of course, the Spaniard managed both clubs and brought Liverpool its fifth European Cup in one of the greatest nights in the club’s history in 2005.

Benitez suggested that he would like to see Liverpool win.

Speaking to Marca he said:

“My adventure at Liverpool lasted five and a half years, from joy to joy, until the Americans arrived and the last year, we had no money.

“But I have great memories, my family lives here, many of my friends are from Liverpool… Logically, I would like to see them win, but I don’t like to see Madrid lose.”

The Spanish outlet asked Benitez if he ever envisaged a return to Anfield: “I think that Jürgen Klopp is going to continue because he is doing well and they have already said that they are going to support him.

“For this reason, I don’t think I have much room to take Liverpool. Klopp is doing well and has support.”
