On their last domestic outing, fourth-placed Liverpool shocked many people when they put 7 past their bitter rivals Manchester United.

Goals from new frontmen Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and trusty Mohamed Salah have boosted the Reds in their pursuit of those sacred top four spots.

Bournemouth sit rock bottom of the Premier League, but almost produced the unthinkable when they faced Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The South Coast side took them to the last kick of the game until Reiss Nelson’s stunner put the final nail in the coffin.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will be expected to shrug past a struggling Bournemouth outfit, but Merson has predicted a shock may lie ahead.

He spoke to Sportskeeda ahead of the fixture.

“‘Bournemouth have done a decent job in recent weeks. A couple of weeks ago, Bournemouth would have fancied their chances heading into a game against Liverpool,” said the Arsenal legend.

“But suddenly, the Merseysiders have beaten Manchester United 7-0 and are back in the race for a top-four berth. It goes to show that the timing of games matters,”

‘Bournemouth did really well against Arsenal last week. It was a good performance and they’d be gutted to have lost with effectively the last kick of the game,”

‘Liverpool’s front three are starting to click. Confidence is such an important thing and last week, the trio of Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah looked much better than they have all season. That win will do their confidence a world of good.”

Despite his loving praise of Liverpool’s attack, Merson predicted a shock 2-0 defeat for when the Reds make the trip down south.
