Mohamed Salah has been absent from Liverpool’s squad for their last couple of games.

This is because his national side, Egypt, are currently playing in the 2024 AFCON.

The winger is by far The Pharaohs’ star man and is often the creator of the teams goals.

In the game and a half which he has played thus far, he has managed to contribute to two of their four goals.

One of which was an assist which he didn’t even know was at his feet.

The other was a last minute penalty which managed to secure a 2-2 draw for his national side against Mozambique.

However, in their most recent game against Ghana, Salah was taken off the pitch before the end of the first half.

He was seen holding his hamstring and limping off the pitch.

It was later confirmed by both Jurgen Klopp and the Egyptian FA that the attacker had suffered a muscle strain.

It has also since been confirmed that the 31-year-old will return to Merseyside in order to rehabilitate after his injury.

That’s the plan. If that’s already decided 100 per cent I don’t know, but that’s the plan,” Klopp said.

However long he is out, I think probably everybody sees that it makes sense that he is doing the rehab with us or with our people.

That’s the plan, but if that’s now written in stone already, I don’t know.”

Providing that Egypt reach the latter stages of the tournament Salah will return to represent his national side, this was also confirmed by Klopp who stated,

I’m not a doctor. I would say if Egypt qualify for the final and he is fit before the final then probably yes. Why not?

What Ahmed Hassan had to say about the return of Mohamed Salah to Liverpool

Ahmed Hassan is Egypt’s all time appearance and is the fourth highest international appearance holder of all time.

He made 184 appearances for his national side and retired from football in 2013.

Hassan has criticised Salah’s return to Liverpool claiming he ‘should stay with the team no matter what.’

I’ve always backed Salah and I was very happy with his presence as captain of the Egyptian national team,” he said.

I had no problems with what he said, but it turned out that he was plotting his departure from the Egypt camp.

Do the AFCON regulations allow a player to leave the national team’s camp and come back again?

He had the possibility of bringing in someone from Liverpool’s medical staff to be with him during the competition.

Again, he is the captain. He should stay with the team no matter what, even if he only had one leg to stand on.”

Although the attackers return has been frowned upon by Hassan, many see the reasoning behind Salah returning.

In order for him to be available for the rest of the tournament, Liverpool’s medical team will arguably give him the best chance.

It will also allow Liverpool to control how his rehabilitation is handled and ensure he gets the best treatment possible.
