now Fenway Sports Group have been dealt a blow in their attempts to bring back a former employee.
We know that Jurgen Klopp will be leaving the club. That announcement has set a time for major change at the club.
Not only is Klopp going, but so is his coaching staff and the interim sporting director.
With so much upheaval, it seems that FSG were hoping to bring back a familiar face to help.
And it seems that the enquiry has been turned down.
Fabrizio Romano has taken to X/Twitter to tweet that Liverpool made contact with former sporting director Michael Edwards over the weekend.
With players like Mohammed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Andrew Robertson were brought to Liverpool during Edwards’ time at the club – with many in agreement that it was an unprecedently successful period of transfer activity at Anfield.
Romano states that FSG planned to have Edwards in charge of the restructuring of the club in the aftermath of Klopp’s departure.
However, Edwards rejected the proposal. Not only that, Edwards is not even interested in a more senior role at the club as of today.
So it seems that Michael Edwards is determined to completely close the book on the LFC chapter of his life. And FSG will have to look elsewhere. It seems it will have to be a fresh face that will help shape the club from the summer onwards.
