The transfer story between Liverpool and Ismaila Sarr has been going on for some time now, but a deal has never materialised.
Liverpool have been keen to get the Senegal international on board, and perhaps this window will be their best chance yet.
Fabrizio Romano, back in August 2022, told CaughtOffisde that Sarr had been monitored by Liverpool ‘for years’.
Now, The Athletic reports that the tricky winger will leave Watford at the end of this season and is actively looking for clubs.
Even if the Hornets do secure promotion to England’s top division, this will not stop the 25-year-old from moving on to pastures new.
The Championship star has nine goals and six domestic assists this campaign and has only one year left on his contract.
If Liverpool were to swoop in to try to secure his signature, they would most likely be able to sign him for a cut price, due to his short contract length.
Former Watford teammate Ben Foster hailed Sarr as “frightening” and whose “acceleration is phenomenal” on his YouTube channel.
Though the Merseyside outfit have placed higher importance on midfield incomings this upcoming window, the departure of Roberto Firmino may open the door for a player like Sarr.
Competition for places in Liverpool’s forward line is fierce at the moment, but the £30m winger has much to offer German boss Jurgen Klopp, who is a long-term admirer of the player.
