The Reds have identified an alternative to Jude Bellingham, who would boost their faltering midfield.

Jurgen Klopp and his team are eager to strengthen in the midfield department ahead of the 22/24 campaign after failing to meet expectations in their current underwhelming season.

Though Jude Bellingham remains their priority, a cheaper alternative would be welcomed with open arms as their talks with the Dortmund man are running thin.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, a move for Serbian international Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could be the one that comes to fruition this summer.

Milinkovic-Savic has been ever-present in the Lazio midfield for eight seasons now but is yet to sign a new deal with his current contract set to end next year.

Reports say that the Serbian is hesitant to leave his Italian club for a free transfer in 2024, meaning a move for a cheaper fee this summer is more of a possibility.

Lazio have done their best to fend of interest in the past and slapped a price tag of £44m on their all-important midfield man, but the club could be tempted to sell in the summer if the price is right.

The Liverpool interest news will come as a shock to league leaders Arsenal who have been eyeing up the Lazio star for a while.

The 28-year-old is also reportedly Juventus’ ‘dream signing’ and are monitoring his contract situation.

A move overseas, however, is more realistic for Milinkovic-Savic which will feed hope to those in the Liverpool camp that this deal is one they can get over the line.
