Dominik Szoboszlai has been compared to Lionel Messi after his performances for Hungary in Euro 2024 qualification.
The 23-year-old has quickly established himself as an Anfield favourite and in addition to being Hungary’s golden boy.
During this November international break, Szoboszlai showed why he is the captain of his nation at such a young age.
Against Montenegro, the LFC star scored twice and assisted another as he helped his side overcome Montenegro in a 3-2 win.
The result secured Hungary’s qualification for next summer’s Euro 2024, and the Liverpool’s No.8 joined fans in post-match celebrations.
After the 23-year-olds stellar performance, Hungary goalkeeper Denes Dibusz has hailed Szoboszlai as a figure they can rally around – in a similar sense to none other than Lionel Messi:
“You get the feeling about him like when Lionel Messi was at his best at Barcelona a few years ago,” Dibusz said to INDEX.
“When he had a thought, he went down the pitch and scored.”
“He is a player of an incredible level and a great leader, who is able to lead the team on the field and add something extra to his game that draws the others along and is also effective.”
However, the ‘keeper was also a bit disappointed that his skipper was not more clinical against Bulgaria:
“After the Bulgaria match, I think he was also a little frustrated that despite his chances, he didn’t manage to score.”
“I think he can be satisfied with his finishes and performance today.”
Of the qualification to next summer’s tournament in Germany, Szoboszlai himself said:
“It’s a wonderful feeling to see everyone smiling around us and people happy with our success.”
Dominik Szoboszlai is next in action for Liverpool with a mammoth clash with Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday 25 November.
He will face up against former teammate Erling Haaland, whom he recently revealed that he had a good relationship with.
