Sofyan Amrabat was continually linked with Liverpool throughout December, as his performances in the World Cup for Morocco were gaining significant attention. He helped to bring his nation to the semi-finals of the tournament with his heroic displays in midfield.
It was reported in December that Liverpool had met the player’s entourage and held positive talks in an attempt to bring the Moroccan to Merseyside. However, there has been a lack of news in relation to Amrabat and Liverpool’s attempts to sign him the last few weeks.
The 26-year-old Fiorentina man was also heavily linked with several La Liga teams, and now French publication Foot Mercato report that Liverpool may have missed out on their target to Atletico Madrid. The publication report that Amrabat is an admirer of Diego Simeone and praised the coach in an interview with Marca in December.
“What Simeone does, what he’s achieved… He coached Atlético de Madrid for many years. I like his style of play. He won a lot and I have a lot of respect for him. The players on your team are physically strong and aggressive. I like to play that way.”
