Liverpool U18s’ first game of 2023 ended in a 3-2 defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers.
The Reds went ahead courtesy of captain Terrence Miles’ header, before Blackburn drew level with an equaliser from the spot from Junior Nsangou.
Blackburn took a 2-1 lead in the second half through Ben Thirkill’s finish, which was quickly cancelled out by a goal from Liverpool’s Iwan Roberts.
But the three points were clinched by the visitors in the 73th minute through Ari Shaw’s finish from inside the box.
The defeat leaves Liverpool U18s in seventh position, having lost four out of their last five games in the season.
