Steven Gerrard is one of, if not the biggest, players to ever don a Liverpool shirt.
To be named his favourite player in the squad is a massive boost of confidence as Liverpool begin to turn around the poor start to the campaign.
Their squad is full of talent, and the likeable characters make this choice more difficult than you think.
Former Liverpool captain Gerrard has, however, claimed that Mohamed Salah is his favourite player, speaking in an interview for LFCTV with Salah himself.
“Who was your favourite player?” Salah asked Gerrard.
“Growing up? John Barnes,” he replied.
“Barnes like yourself. A dribbler, exciting. He could score individual goals, like yourself, and he could change a game, and he could win a game. Now my favourite is you.”
Gerrard then explained his son’s admiration towards Liverpool’s winger.
“It has to be you because Lio, my Lio [his son], he’s obsessed. He loves you more than me. You’re the only human he loves more than me. I’m second.”
Since the Egyptian’s arrival in England in 2017, the winger has been at the forefront of Liverpool’s success, netting 178 goals and contributing 74 assists.
His numbers are music to Liverpool supporters’ ears, and there is no surprise that a former player has crowned Salah with this verbal award.
Similarly to Gerrard, there will be no complaints that Salah will leave Anfield a legend, after many successful years at the club.
