A player who is on Liverpool’s books who was once described as “the next Virgil Van Dijk” could be the answer to Liverpool’s defensive issues next season.
As FSG are not looking to spend a lot of money, Sepp Van de Berg could slot into the squad after returning from his season long loan from Schalke 04.
He started off well in Germany, in his first 3 games he won 9 out of 13 defensive duels and made 26 interceptions.
However, in October he suffered an ankle ligament injury, but the good news is that he’s close to full fitness.
To speed up in his recovery, he recently played for Schalke II, in the German fourth tier.
Van de Berg is known for his aerial ability and his speed, posting a respectable 33.06km/h earlier this season.
This beats speedsters Sadio Mane (32.96km/h) and Serge Gnabry (32.93km/h).
At only 21 years of age, he is showing potential, and as a comparison, Van Dijk was playing for Gronigen at the same age.
Centre backs tend to mature later in their careers as opposed to attacking players.
