There are two men who are the talk of Liverpool at the moment with one being Jurgen Klopp after his announcement stating he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season which stunned the sporting world.

The second one is former Liverpool hero Xabi Alonso who was at the club for five years under Rafael Benitez as he is the favourite to take over from Klopp at the start of next season.

Liverpool are reportedly keeping an eye on him and Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi as they weigh up what to do next with a massive decision which they have not had to worry about for nine years.

As well as Klopp assistant managers Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, as well as elite development coach Vitor Matos so the reshuffle is going to be a manic one in the summer.

Even though Liverpool will want to get whoever they want in as quickly as possible it will certainly be a long process as they evaluate who will be the best fit for this current crop of players but before that, they will want to hire a new sports director due to the fact Jorg Schmadtke will be leaving after this January transfer window.

However, the owners will still be looking to approach whoever they want and there has been an update about a possible Klopp replacement.

Xabi Alonso will reportedly be allowed to leave Bayer Leverkusen in the summer

According to Sky Germany even though Xabi Alonso’s contract at Bayer Leverkusen runs until 2026 he will be allowed to leave in the summer if one of Liverpool, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich come after him as they are all his former clubs..

He has been given a lot of credit in his first senior season in management as he has Leverkusen top of the league whilst being unbeaten and ahead of Bayern Munich who have dominated the Bundesliga for over a decade.

As of right now Liverpool have not made an approach for Alonso as they are reportedly trying to get clarity quickly as Barcelona may also come knocking on the door for Alonso after his former Spanish teammate Xavi like Klopp confirmed that he will be stepping down at the end of the season.

Sky have suggested that as well as Alonso and De Zerbu the other candidate is former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann but he has a European Championship campaign to manager with Germany in the summer so it may not be ideal for Liverpool to wait until after then.

At the moment the club will be wanting to do everything in the background so that Klopp and his players can continue with challenging for four major honours with no distractions as the Carabao Cup final is now under a month away whilst they also have two massive league games coming up against Chelsea and Arsenal.
