Liverpool have been linked with Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes for the past few weeks, but Mike McGrath for The Telegraph is now reporting that Jurgen Klopp will face competition from big spenders Chelsea for the 24-year-old.
Liverpool almost signed Nunes last year but the Portuguese international ended up signing for Wolves for a fee of £44 million. He is now valued at around £55 million.
Chelsea have spent a staggering 460 million euros since last summer and are looking to splash even more cash, with Nunes on a list of potential midfield targets that also includes Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and West Ham’s Declan Rice.
Jurgen Klopp will more than likely lose out-of-contract James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita in the summer. The German will therefore, need to undertake an extensive rebuild in that area of the pitch. Jude Bellingham has long been touted as Klopp’s dream signing in midfield but in recent weeks links to Nunes have intensified.
