A new update offers delight to Liverpool supporters as Portuguese star Diogo Jota is expected to remain in Merseyside beyond the end of this summer.

He immediately became a force to be reckoned in the early stages of his Liverpool career as he scored nine Premier League goals in his first season.

However, his form has since seen a meteoric dip, with his last goal coming back in April against Manchester City in a 2-2 draw.

Since that goal, he has suffered extended time away from action with extensive injury woes.

Jota, in his limited minutes, has looked out of sorts and is now seemingly behind new recruits Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo in the pecking order.

However, according to Football Insider, Jota has been named a ‘key part of Liverpool’s plans’ in the foreseeable future and the club are keen to keep hold of their 26-year-old star.

Jota’s current deal at Anfield is up until the summer of 2027, so a hefty bid would need to be placed on the table to tempt Klopp to sell up.

It’s clear that his recent performances have not been up to the standard we were blessed with on his arrival, but Klopp has plans to return the Portugal international back to the peak of his powers.

Rumours of his premature exit will now quieten as Klopp has expressed his belief that the ‘exceptional’ Jota will remain in his ranks.

There’s no reason that Jota can’t have an influence on Liverpool’s race for Champions League qualification.

Though he may not be a nailed-on starter for the Reds, he provides another layer of possibility.
