A hugely positive update for Liverpool as Colombian winger Luis Diaz is set to return from injury sooner than expected.

Wayne Veysey of Football Insider writes that Diaz’s rehabilitation from a knee injury sustained in a 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on October 9 is progressing extremely well, meaning the tricky winger could return to the side in time for Liverpool’s League Cup clash with Manchester City on December 22.

Diaz’s early comeback to the squad is the perfect Christmas present for Jurgen Klopp, as his team has been ravaged by injuries since the start of the season. The Reds’ injury woes are a major factor in the team’s lackluster start to the league campaign.

Klopp will be hoping for a major reset when the Premier League returns on Boxing Day and Diaz’s return will provide a major boost to his team in their hopes to improve their league form.

Diaz has been influential for Liverpool since his arrival in January from FC Porto. Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan responded to the news, stating, “It will be like a new signing for Jurgen Klopp, who missed him badly when he was out”.
