Liverpool have shocked supporters today as they have announced that Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he will be stepping down as the manager at the end of this season.

A short video was released on their social media in the morning of Klopp announcing why and then a further 25-minute interview of the German coach further explaining his decision was released by the club.

Then in the afternoon, a special press conference was held so Klopp could answer questions from the media about the decision but he stated that this would be the only time that he would give answers on the topic as he is focused on winning every football game he possibly can at his last season at the club.

Several managers in the Premier League and across Europe reacted to the news as well with former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso admitting that he was surprised that Klopp would be leaving Liverpool after nine years.

There has been plenty of rumours already surrounding who may be taking over Klopp and there has been one report suggesting that there are three names already in the frame for the job next season.

However, that is a long way off and plenty of supporters are still in a moment of shock as they were not anticipating this news to break anytime soon due to the fact that Klopp’s contract ran until 2026.

Liverpool have plenty of famous fans around the globe but there few who are bigger than basketball legend LeBron James who is also a part-owner of The Reds due to the fact he joined Fenway Sports Group as a partner in 2021.

He has sent a message to Klopp on social media as he is, like many supporters around the world, gutted that he will after this season no longer be sat in the home dugout at Anfield.

James said: “THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING AND MORE!!

“You are one helluva manager and you’ll never be forgotten and more importantly YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE!! The Reds will miss you!!”

Liverpool’s first game since the announcement is on Sunday in the FA Cup fourth round at Anfield against Norwich City as the players look to get another step close to another major honour to end the Klopp era at Liverpool.

At the moment The Reds are in a fine position in all four competitions as they are in the final of the Carabao Cup as well as being in the round of 16 of the Europa League.

Obviously they are also top of the Premier League as well and now the title race has got another narrative surrounding it as it may be the last tume Klopp and Pep Guardiola lock horns at the top.

So every Liverpool fan, including LeBron James, are going to be in for an emotional whirlwind of a season for the next few months as they prepare to give Klopp the most memorable of goodbyes.
