Jurgen Klopp gave his thoughts to beIN Sports on Liverpool’s huge 2-0 win against Newcastle at St. James’s Park.

“The most important thing is we got the points. Deserved obviously. We scored wonderful goals. Then the red card, the reaction to that was not perfect. Newcastle had nothing to lose anymore. They put in a proper shift and caused us problems.”

“Too many set-pieces. With set-pieces, you can have only 5 players and still be a threat. But in the end, we fought through and it’s all good. We scored wonderful goals. The right players scored the goals. Mo could have scored too.”

“We had moments where we could have closed the game much earlier but we didn’t. That’s fine, it’s another step for us and a massive three points.”

“The goals were outstanding. Real football. The front three, together for only the third or fourth time. You can see the patterns are clearer now so that helps obviously. Bobby and Diogo coming on helps a lot. Diogo could have scored. Bobby started well and lost a few balls but that’s normal. (Milner) was there and sorted a lot of things, also.”

“It’s a tough place to go and we won and got three points and that’s why we were here today.”

Klopp laughs when he was told Liverpool’s last clean before this game was in the same fixture last April at St. James’s Park.

“Oh god. (Laughs). That’s horrible news to be honest. But (the clean sheet) is massive. But I don’t really think about these things or look that far back. We are not the away threat we use to be but we have to get on this track as well and today was a big step.”

Klopp on Van Dijk’s return to the squad.

“Obviously massive. Really good. 95 mins with no problems and a lot of really helpful moments where he cleared the balls for us so, yeah, really good.”
