Jurgen Klopp spoke to Sky Sports at full time after Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
Klopp was not impressed with Liverpool’s defending and said that “all three goals were completely unnecessary.”
Klopp said “he liked a lot of things” but Liverpool had a “difficult first 15 minutes”. He was particularly disappointed with Nathan Ake’s winning goal. “The goals we conceded were completely unnecessary, all.’
“We watch the ball in that moment and that’s not possible. They played a short corner, we all expect him (Ake) to win that header but behind him is absolutely nobody apart from two City players so again the goals we conceded were completely unnecessary. The rest was a difficult game in a lot of parts for both teams.. Good spells as well. On a day when you cannot lose at 3-2 anymore without thinking you are a really bad team there is something really wrong. It is a result we have to live with now.”Â
It was good. That was a high intensity game, obviously from both teams that’s normal. So how how that? We played a good good game, but not good enough to beat city tonight and that’s something but not everything. So, that’s just how it is. When you you can win against City, or we can win against City, if you are really on top of our game. We weren’t tonight for different reasons, but then you have to to take the result, that’s what we do. But, how I said there’s a lot, we can we can build on. We can take into the next games and that’s what we will do.
Klopp went on to provide updates on some absentees from tonight:
“Trent was ill. Ox was ill until yesterday. Virgil trained at the Axa today. Ibou will join us next week.”
