Klopp is encouraged by what he sees with Darwin Nunez

After last night’s game Jurgen Klopp spoke to ex-Middlesborough player Jan Aage Fjortoft in an interview with ViaplayFotball.

Klopp was asked about similarities with Darwin Nunez and Robert Lewandowski.

“First and foremost I don’t think it is too fair to compare strikers now to Robert Lewandowski. He is will go down in history as one of the best ever. But yes, it’s right (he missed chances).  His start was rather rusty. He missed chances like crazy, especially in training sessions. The only thing what we do in these moments is when the strikers get chances we know everything is fine, everything else will come.

Today you saw already, a massive improvement. He had a similar chance in the last game getting close to the goalie, tonight you seen he chipped the ball over the goalie. I can’t see a lot of strikers who would have these chances because his speed is insane. Then the pass to Mo in the second half, absolutely exceptional. If he wouldn’t have to talk about it every two or three days it would be a completely easy situation. I really hope nobody out there in the job he has is judged early and finally, and they say ‘eh, you’re not good enough’. In my team that will never happen.

I see all the positive signs I need to be completely calm. I like the crowd. I don’t know exactly what they were singing about Darwin but I think it was for Darwin to give him encouragement. It is easy to enjoy his game, in moments undefendable, and yes things to improve. But look at the passport, a lot of professional football years to come.”
