Jurgen Klopp is set to begin a rebuild of his midfield this summer, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all out of contract in the summer. However, Milner’s future has yet to be decided.
The reliable Fabrizio Romano now reports for Caught Offside that Klopp and Milner will hold talks in the summer about the midfielder’s future. At 37, Milner may be considering retirement and possibly a non-playing role at the club.
Liverpool have not yet made a decision on whether to offer Milner a new deal or to let the midfielder go in the summer.
Romano said, ““Nothing has been decided on James Milner’s future yet. Milner will speak with Klopp at the end of the season and make a decision about his future.”
“He’s heading towards the agent of his contract, but it’s too early to say what happens next, whether that’s a new deal, a move somewhere else, or even retirement.
“Liverpool are super happy with his involvement but the player and Klopp will speak in the next months, not now.”
Milner has played a variety of positions under Klopp and has been a valuable member of the squad since he joined the Reds in 2015. His versatility, leadership and experience is rare to find in the Premier League.
