Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is set to make a tough decision when deciding his 25-man Champions League squad in preparation for the Reds’ European clash with Real Madrid on February 21st.
Klopp will undoubtedly want to include his new signing Cody Gakpo in the squad but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, who were not registered in Liverpool’s Champions League squad for the group stages due to injuries, have both returned to fitness, meaning there are now 26 players in the squad.
As reported by Andrew McLean of The Express, one senior player will now have to be left out of Klopp’s squad.
Klopp will have to choose his squad wisely, as Liverpool’s poor domestic form and Liverpool’s exits from the FA Cup and Carabao Cup has ensured that the Champions League is the club’s only hope of silverware this season, and winning the trophy is now possibly their only hope of getting into the competition again next year.
